Refreshing Apple and Ginger Juice

This apple and ginger juice recipe offers a simple and delicious way to enjoy the invigorating flavors of apple and ginger. You can adjust the amount of ginger to your preference for spiciness.

Yields: Approximately 1-2 servings Prep time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium apples (any variety, such as Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp), cored and roughly chopped
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
  • ½ cup water (optional, adjust for desired consistency)
  • Optional:
    • A squeeze of lemon or lime juice for brightness
    • A small piece of turmeric for added health benefits and a hint of earthiness
    • A few mint leaves for extra freshness

Equipment:

  • Juicer or blender
  • Fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth (if using a blender)
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Instructions:

Using a Juicer:

  1. Wash the apples and ginger thoroughly.
  2. Cut the apples into pieces that will fit into your juicer’s feeding tube. Ensure the core is removed.
  3. Peel the ginger and cut it into smaller pieces.
  4. Feed the apple pieces and ginger into the juicer.
  5. If using, add a small piece of peeled turmeric and mint leaves along with the apple and ginger.
  6. Collect the juice in a glass.
  7. If desired, stir in a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.
  8. Serve immediately for the best flavor and nutritional benefits.

Using a Blender:

  1. Wash the apples and ginger thoroughly.
  2. Core and roughly chop the apples.
  3. Peel and roughly chop the ginger.
  4. Place the chopped apples and ginger (and optional turmeric and mint) into the blender.
  5. Add ½ cup of water. Start with less water if you prefer a thicker juice and add more to reach your desired consistency.
  6. Blend on high speed until completely smooth.
  7. Place a fine-mesh sieve over a bowl or glass. Line the sieve with cheesecloth for an even smoother juice.
  8. Pour the blended mixture into the sieve and use a spoon or spatula to press down on the solids, extracting as much juice as possible.
  9. Discard the pulp.
  10. If desired, stir in a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.
  11. Serve immediately.

Tips and Variations:

  • Apple Variety: Experiment with different types of apples for varying sweetness and tartness. A mix of sweet and tart apples can create a well-balanced flavor.
  • Ginger Intensity: Adjust the amount of ginger to your liking. Start with a smaller piece and add more if you prefer a stronger ginger kick.
  • Sweetness: If your apples aren’t sweet enough, you can add a small amount of natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup to the blended juice (avoid adding directly to the juicer).
  • Other Fruits and Vegetables: Feel free to add other ingredients like a carrot, a few spinach leaves, or a small piece of cucumber for added nutrients and flavor variations.
  • Serving: Serve the juice chilled or at room temperature. It’s best consumed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, though some nutrient loss may occur.
